Determine Your Exact Age

Preceden has an age calculator that tells you exactly how old you are in years, months, days, and even hours, minutes, and seconds. It also tells you which day of the week you were born on.

If you would rather not type a date, the same page lists every year from 1900 onward. Pick a birth year to see how old someone born on a given date that year would be today.

Showing an age on a timeline

To put a lifespan on a Preceden timeline, give the event a start date and an end date. The end date can be a date or a duration measured from the start, such as 80 years, and Preceden works out the date for you. For someone still living, set the end date to Present.

Present is worth preferring over typing today's date, because Preceden works the end out again every time the timeline loads. A bar running from a birth date to Present is a year older next year without anyone editing it.

Leave the end date blank and the event marks a single moment on the timeline instead of spanning a range, which is what you want for a birth, a graduation, or any other one-day event.

Letting Preceden write the age on the bar

Preceden can display how long each event lasted, which turns a birth-to-Present bar into a running age:

  1. Click the Appearance button above your timeline.
  2. Open the Content Visibility section and check Durations.
  3. Open the Events section and set Largest Duration Unit to Years.

The bar then reads something like "34 years and 2 months". Preceden shows at most two units, so Years keeps a lifespan readable, and Events Appearance Settings covers the smaller units for spans shorter than a life.

If you are laying out a whole life rather than one span, Make a Timeline of Your Life covers the homes, schools, jobs and milestones that go on it.
