In July 2019, Preceden acquired Timeglider, a popular web-based timeline maker.

How did the acquisition impact Timeglider?

Timeglider shut down on November 30, 2020, so you can no longer sign in or sign up. Timeglider's NYT Explorer, a companion tool that built timelines out of New York Times articles, is no longer online either. To create a timeline, we recommend Preceden, which offers similar functionality.

How did Preceden and Timeglider differ?

The two tools overlapped on the basics. Preceden adds image and PDF exports, drag and drop positioning, a choice of themes, layers for grouping events, and a long list of date and time formats. Timeglider had event importance, tags, events shared across timelines, and filtering, none of which Preceden offers.
