Number of Events on a Timeline

On every paid plan there is a maximum of 1,500 events per timeline, though you'll likely find the timeline editor slowing down significantly in the 500-600 range.

Note that we do say "unlimited events" throughout Preceden because saying "1,500 events max" everywhere is cumbersome, and very few people add more than a few hundred anyway.

If you run into this limit, consider splitting your timeline into several smaller ones.

The Free Plan's 10 Event Limit

On the free plan, each timeline can have up to 10 events. A banner at the top of the editor shows how many of those 10 you've used, and once a timeline has 10 events, clicking Add Event shows our plans instead of the event form. Upgrading to any paid plan raises the limit to 1,500.

A few details worth knowing:

• The limit follows the timeline owner's plan, not yours. If someone on a Pro plan invites you to collaborate on their timeline, you can add events to it up to the 1,500 maximum, even on a free account.
• AI-generated timelines can start out with more than 10 events on the free plan. You can still edit those events, except for their names, but you can't add new ones until you upgrade.
• Events you add with AI suggestions count toward the 10.
